Créer de l’espace: experiences kinesthésiques
How might feminist political action be when it is not overtly revolutionary? How is the body valued in this kind of political action, particularly as a site and source for learning? With a focus on kinesthesia, the sense of our body position, and kinesthetic empathy, the engagement with another’s movement or sensorial experience of movement, this program curated by Celia Vara features artists from Québec (1977-1998). On the one hand, an activist purpose against abuses of power deconstructs the role of women in Québec society, where the focus is on women’s bodies occupying public space. On the other hand, a more intimate and introspective somatic approach explores bodily agency through movement in different spaces.
In the workshop following the screening, participants will engage in a corporeal exploration of movement related to the screening to bring forth new possible forms of being in their bodies.
