Hailey Guzik is a new media artist based in Tiohtià:ke-Mooniyang-Montreal. Their practice entangles histories of art, nature, science, and technology through queerfeminist, postnatural, and speculative frameworks. Staging alternative realities within immersive installation formats, their work explores how cultural and technological systems shape perceptions of nature and the ongoing ecological crisis. Guzik’s current research investigates the ‘technogarden’ as a heterotopic site of speculative intervention. Proposing hybrid and relational plant-human-machine environments, their work repurposes algorithmic and computational processes to renegotiate binaries of self and other, fact and fiction, present and future, and the real and the virtual. Guzik holds a BFA from Mount Allison University (2017) and is currently pursuing an MFA in Intermedia at Concordia University (2027) supported by SSHRC and a Peter N. Thomson Family Graduate Scholarship. Past work has been exhibited across eastern Canada, and their research-creation projects have been supported by New Brunswick Arts Board, CALQ, and Canada Council for the Arts.
