bio

Mary Shannon Will est née à Ithaca, New York, aux États-Unis et vit actuellement à Calgary, en Alberta. Elle a étudié à la Archie Bray Foundation,à Helena, au Montana, en 1974, et à l'University of New Mexico, à Albuquerque, au Nouveau-Mexique, en 1970-71, ainsi qu'à l'University of Iowa, à Iowa City, en Iowa de 1964-67. Elle a enseigné au Emily Carr College of Art & Design, à Vancouver, Colombie Britannique, et au Tuscarora Pottery, à Tuscarora, au Nevada, en 1975 et 1969. Récemment, elle a participé à une résidence dédiée aux femmes et à la peinture à Banff. Ses oeuvres font partie de nombreuses collections dont la Alberta Art Foundation, la Banque d'Oeuvres d'Art du Conseil des Arts du Canada, la Edmonton Art Gallery, le Glenbow Museum, l'Université de Calgary, l'Université de Lethbridge et l'Université d'Alberta. Elle a présenté de nombreuses expositions solo à travers le Canada, parmi lesquelles: Paul Kuhn Gallery, à Calgary, Miriam Shiell Fine Art, à Toronto, University of Lethbridge Art Gallery, à Lethbridge, Alberta, Stride Gallery, à Calgary, Southern Alberta Art Gallery, à Lethbridge, Alberta et le Glenbow Museum, à Calgary, Alberta. Elle est actuellement représentée par la Paul Kuhn Gallery.

Mary Shannon Will présentera une série de 6 tableaux produits au moyen de technologie numérique. Son travail est principalement axé sur l'exploration de différentes formes de motifs, strates et répétitions. Souvent, elle obscurcit et voile ses images afin de susciter un sens de tension spatiale artificielle.

Mary Shannon Will was born in Ithaca, New York, USA and presently lives in Calgary, Alberta. She studied at the Archie Bray Foundation, Helena, Montana, 1974, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 1970-71, and University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, 1964-67. She has taught at the Emily Carr College of Art & Design, Vancouver, B.C and the Tuscarora Pottery, Tuscarora, Nevada, 1975 & 1969. Recently she participated in the Women and Paint Residency at Banff. Her works are part of numerous collections including the :Alberta Art Foundation; Canada Council Art Bank; Edmonton Art Gallery; Glenbow Museum; University of Calgary; University of Lethbridge; and University of Alberta. She has had numerous solo exhibition across Canada including at Paul Kuhn Gallery, Calgary; Miriam Shiell Fine Art, Toronto; University of Lethbridge Art Gallery, Lethbridge, Alberta; Stride Gallery, Calgary; Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Lethbridge, Alberta; and the Glenbow Museum, Calgary, Alberta. She is presently represented by Paul Kuhn Gallery.

Mary Shannon Will will be exhibiting a series of 6 digitally produced paintings. Her work is primarily concerned with explorations relating to various forms of patterning, layering and repetition. Often, she obscures and veils images with the intent of instigating a sense of unnatural spatial tension.
